“A picture is worth 1,000 words.” This trite saying is so true for this generation. Basic visual literacy is a skill we are born with, but it needs to be honed and built upon. Visuals are universal and have great power in reaching masses that words may not fully affect. Why not capitalize on this medium and infuse this skill-building in our curriculum? Students need to learn how to interpret, analyze, and utilize images and visuals in order to better understand themes and rhetoric. And they need to know the power of the images that they can create for their own intentions.
